Call for Papers

Commemorating Charles S. Peirce (1839-1914): interpretive semiotics and mass media

editors Giampaolo Proni and Salvatore Zingale.

deadline: 22 February 2014

In commemoration of the 100th anniversary of the death of C. S. Peirce, Ocula wants to collect some reflections on mass media and semiotics inspired by Peirce's theory.
Among the possibile themes we can list the following:

Applications of Peirce's theory of interpretation to media analysis.
Pragmatism (or pragmaticism) and the communication society.
Application of interpretive semiotics to the analysis of texts.
Peircean semiotics and studies in consumption behavior.
Inference, in particular abduction, and media communication: narrations, reasonings, intercultural relations;
Peirce's theory of communication.
Peirce, theory of culture and cultural images.

The call for papers is open to theoretical as well as analytic approaches. Priority will be given to applied semiotics and case studies. Contributions are not restricted to semiotics but we will prefere articles that treat media from the semiotic point of view. All the same, papers that apply sociologic and marketing approaches will be accepted. All papers must refer to Charles Peirce's theory, if only by a quotation or the synthesis of a theoretic position.

There are no limits for the essays but we recommend not to exceed 40.000 characters.
