Landmarks between exploration and storytelling of the place. The case study of via Ostiense in Rome

language: italian

publication date: May 2025

abstract: This contribution recounts the exploration made in the Ostiense neighborhood in Rome, as part of the doctoral research project in design at the Polytechnic of Milan, on orientation systems in urban public space, with the aim of understanding how to study a territory when the aim is to design a wayfinding system that describes the place in its complexity. This text focuses on the exploration part of the urban area chosen as the object of study to understand its structural characteristics. Starting from the five elements of the city identified by Lynch, attention will be focused in particular on the landmarks, to understand how these integrate with the history of the neighborhood and with the orientation within it.
